The Big Reveal: Rochester’s Newest Addition to the ArtWalk District

If you’ve been following our blog, and have connected with us on Facebook, you may have had the opportunity to guess what was in the box we shared a picture of.  We’ve had some great guesses, all in the name of fun (and a Starbucks Gift Card).  Here were some of the guesses people submitted:

  • A kitchen trash compactor
  • A bird bath
  • Some big honking’ tiles (we like this one)
  • Packing peanuts
  • Guitars (hmm mosaic tile guitars could be cool)
  • A Refrigerator
All great guesses!  But the correct answer is a mannequin (well several of them really in several boxes).  If you are familiar with the Artwalk District in Rochester, NY you know there are many cool things to check out in this area. We will be adding a new outdoor display of these ArtWalk Tile designed mosaic tile mannequins.
These ladies have been in the works for months now and we are getting ready to begin the installation process very soon!

Each mannequin was assembled with love, right here in the ArtWalk Tile showroom, and depending on the day, you may have stopped in and seen us in action.

We’ve got a few still in the works, and 1 or 2 yet to design.  Each a masterpiece of it’s own, and each a unique personality with attitude and flair.  These mosaic tile mannequin beauties will be the talk of the town for a long time to come!

We’ll be sharing more in the coming weeks about where these mannequins will be installed, when you can see them, and the whole process beginning to end.  It’s been fun for us, and we know Rochester will enjoy it as well!

My Tile Style: Alternating Tile Size and Color Shade.

Michelle from Mount Kisco, NY entered the “My Tile Style Contest” late last year, with her renovated bathroom. This project included a full replacement of shower, sink, toilet, with the addition of a recessed medicine cabinet and wainscoting on the walls for great contrast.

And of course, the floor was retiled with product from ArtWalk Tile.  Michelle used the Efesus Tumbled Stone Tile and alternated 8″ x 8 ” and 8″ x 16″ tile in varying shades including ivory cream and warm walnut.

Thank you Michelle for your submission. We love the contrast of the dark walls, with the wainscoting and all tied together with the earth tone floor tiles.  Nice job!

70s Vinyl Tile

When you think of vinyl tile, you probably have some flash back to your youth – and it may not be a good flashback. You think of that floor that your parents or grandparents had in their bathroom when you were growing up. Lime green or bright gold perhaps?

Linoleum or vinyl tile were a popular choice because of the wide variety of color choices, as well as it’s durability and resilience for use in rooms where moisture can be an issue.

Vinyl tile is easy to clean with a damp mop and broom to keep your floor looking brand new.

At ArtWalk we carry Mannington Vinyl Tile which features an inner core designed for more comfort for standing. This inner core also serves as an insulation to keep the floor quieter, as well as holding the heat during the winter, and maintaining that coolness during the summer months.

And the best part!?  Vinyl tile no longer has to be ugly! Check out a few of these samples that we carry of vinyl tile.  Give your room a hardwood floor appeal with all the comfort ans strength of vinyl tile.

And to make life even easier – the vinyl tile we carry does not require adhesive for installation. The Mannington Floor Tiles lock together to make installation a snap!

Tile Optical Illusion

Don’t hurt your brain on this one… These tiles are set in parallel rows, but when offset in columns, they give the appearance of being more of a trapezoid shape.  This illusion was installed on a cafe wall in England in the late 1970′s. If you were able to slide the tiles left to right, the separating lines between rows would then reveal that each tile, is in fact a square.

Just a little tile fun today!  Enjoy and share!

Annie,

I wanted to thank you and Brian for your excellent follow up on my order. You both had been quite helpful throughout the process; from placing the order to delivery. It arrived yesterday and the truck driver was quite helpful in taking some extra effort to place the pallet at a location that would make it much easier for me to unload. My experience doing business with your company has been excellent and I will definitely contact you the next time I need tile.

Best regards,
