Perinton, N.Y. -
Homearama, the annual community showcase produced by the Rochester Home
Builders’ Association, is returning to its roots for its 30th anniversary.
Homearama 2008, which runs June 14-29, features seven homes in Magnolia Manor in
Perinton, the town selected for the first Homearama in1979. Perinton has hosted two
others since.
Perinton businesses are prominently represented in one of the models, “The Inspired
Home,” which is designed to be a tranquil retreat. It’s being built by The Aristo Company
of Fairport, owned by architect Stacey Haralambides. It also keeps with the other themes
of this year’s show by using a lot of green materials and energy-efficient features, as well
as being smaller for empty nesters or others downsizing.
It’s also unique for its father-daughter team with Haralambides’ daughter Jennifer who is
in charge of sales and marketing. Son Nicholas is project manager.
“We’re hoping that the home has a unique feel, unlike any of the other homes in
Rochester,” said Jennifer, who got a lot of Zen-like ideas for the home on a trip to
Thailand early this year. “The whole thing is to have it be a very calming home.”
Stacey said the shape of the home itself is a piece of sculpture with open spaces and no
boxy-type rooms, yet in a simplistic fashion, using many natural materials, with the idea
that less is more.
Designer Lana Torre of Evergreen Interiors of Perinton, who’s working on her 25th
Homearama home, uses what she called soothing earthy colors, some that match the
muted tones of pebbles used in the master bathroom tiles. She also picked out the exterior
colors, roof and siding.
“I tried to create this harmonious feeling,” she said. “It’s all about the feeling. It’s a
general calming feeling when you walk in the door. We expect it will be a breath of fresh
air for the people who enter this place.”
Other Perinton businesses involved in The Inspired Home or that have a Perinton
connection are Ambiance Blinds, owned by John and Lisa Sparks; Final Impressions,
Doug McFarland; ArtWalk Tile, Joe Ventura; Faux Art by Lorraine Staunch; furniture
by the Object Maker, John Grieco; and Bayles Leather House, Victor. There’s also Roses
and Oak Custom Furniture of Yates County and Rochester Landscaping, Jeff Falco.
